FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT CELEBRATE RECOVERY

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT CELEBRATE RECOVERY

What is Celebrate Recovery?

Celebrate Recovery is a biblical, Christ-centered recovery ministry for anyone who struggles with life’s hurts, habits and hang-ups. Its curriculum takes participants through the 12 Steps & The 8 Recovery Principles, which are based on the Beatitudes.

Whatever is behind the pain in your life – procrastination, guilt, anger, rage, fear, anxiety, divorce, alcohol abuse, perfectionism, insecurity, overspending, overworking, overeating, grief, abuse, drugs, codependency, sexual addictions, hurtful relationships, gambling, lying or the need to control – Celebrate Recovery helps you face and resolve the problem.

What is the purpose of Celebrate Recovery?

The purpose of Celebrate Recovery is to fellowship together and celebrate God’s healing power in our lives by sharing our experience, strength, and hope through the 12 Steps and The 8 Recovery Principles. This experience allows us to find hope and encounter transformation in our lives.

What is a hurt, habit, or hang-up?

A hurt, habit or hang-up is anything that hinders your walk with God. Hurts, habits, and hang-ups postpone or prevent genuine fellowship with Him and your loved ones.

Who is Celebrate Recovery for?

Anyone and everyone (ages 18 & over).

You may be thinking that recovery is only for those with alcohol or drug problems. This could NOT be further from the truth. Most of life’s hurts, habits and hang-ups can be addressed through this one ministry, including problems with abuse, anger, grief, alcohol, drugs, depression, guilt and shame, financial loss, divorce, dysfunctional families, sexual problems, eating disorders, and much more.

Do I need to pre-register to attend Celebrate Recovery?

No, just show up! There are no pre-registration or sign-ups. Upon arrival you will be greeted by someone who will help you become acclimated.

Will childcare be provided?

Yes, we have childcare for all ages birth-17 years old. Parents/caregivers must remain on-site for the entire
Celebrate Recovery meeting.
Children from birth – 4 years can be checked in at the Calvary PSL preschool entrance.
Elementary-aged children (K-5) and Middle/High School students (6-12) can be checked in at the CalvaryKids
entrance.
We are blessed to offer Celebration Place and The Landing for our students.

What is Celebration Place?

Celebration Place is a Christ-centered program designed just for kids. It follows the same teaching schedule and
biblical principles as CR, giving children the opportunity to explore God’s truth in ways that are age-appropriate
and meaningful. While parents are finding healing and hope through recovery, their children are learning the
same life-changing truths right alongside them.

What is The Landing?

The Landing is a Christ-centered environment where middle and high school students can begin their own
journey of healing. Based on the same biblical principles as Celebrate Recovery, The Landing helps students
navigate life’s struggles and find hope through a personal relationship with Jesus. Whether they’re facing family
challenges, peer pressure, past hurts, or unhealthy habits, teens learn tools for freedom, truth, and identity right
where they are.

How often does this group meet? Where?

Celebrate Recovery meets Thursday nights at 6:30pm in the church sanctuary (Calvary PSL campus).

Please enter the church through the side doors closest to the courtyard & coffee bar.

What does a typical evening look like?

At the beginning of the evening, we have a light meal and time of fellowship. At 6:30pm everyone meets
together in the sanctuary for worship and a teaching or testimony. At 7:30pm we offer small group open share.
This is when we move into recovery-specific, gender-specific small groups to openly share and hear from others
with similar hurts, habits, and hang-ups.

How much does it cost?

There is no sign-up fee.

How long does it last?

Celebrate Recovery meets year-round on Thursday nights, except holidays and during special church-wide events.

Do I have to stand up and speak before a group of people?

No. There is no pressure or requirement to share.

What makes this program different from NON-Christ centered 12-step programs?

Most people are familiar with the classic 12-step programs of AA and other groups. Based on the actual words of Jesus, Celebrate Recovery incorporates the eight recovery principles, found in the Beatitudes, with the 12-steps.

Will there be anonymity for people to share their heartfelt concerns?

Yes. Providing a safe place where anonymity is respected is a priority. CR provides a safe place, so you can be real and truly heal.

How will I benefit from attending and completing Celebrate Recovery?

The “road to recovery” from our hurts, habits, and hang-ups leads to wholeness, growth, and spiritual maturity. It doesn’t get much better than that. We don’t attend to try and fix one another; we attend to support one another on the road to recovery.

What is a Step Study and where/when do the step studies meet?

The greatest growth and level of accountability takes place in the weekly Step Studies. Using the Celebrate Recovery participants guides, members of these gender-specific groups study each of the 12-steps and answer and discuss questions at the end of each lesson. Step Studies are offered at various times throughout the year and meet on a separate night.
